Fire, EMS Services Receive $238,000 in State Grants, Schlegel Says

HARRISBURG – Rep. John Schlegel (R-Lebanon) announced today that 17 fire companies and emergency medical services (EMS) providers in the 101st Legislative District have been awarded $238,397 in state grants through the state Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program.
“The grants are the local share of about $37 million that is being disbursed statewide through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner,” said Schlegel. “The funding will help to ensure our local fire companies and emergency medical services providers, will continue to be there for us in our time of emergency.”
Local grant recipients are as follows:
• Community Fire Co. of Cornwall Borough - $12,633.
• Glenn Lebanon Fire Co. - $12,633.
• Goodwill Fire Engine and Hose Co. No.5 - $12,014.
• Independent Fire Co. - $12,839.
• Lebanon Chemical Engine and Insurance Patrol Co. No.1 - $14,282.
• Lebanon Fire Dept. - $16,137.
• Lebanon Fire Dept. First Aid and Safety Patrol - $15,000.
• Lebanon Hook and Ladder Co. - $12,633.
• Mount Gretna Community Vol. Fire Co. - $13,045.
• Neversink Fire Co. - $13,663.
• Perseverance Fire Co. - $12,014.
• Quentin Vol. Fire Co. - $12,014.
• Rescue Hose Co. No.4 - $14,075.
• Rural Security Fire Co. - $12,426.
• South Lebanon Fire Co. No.1 - $28,137.
• Speedwell Engine and Hose Co. - $12,426.
• Union Steam Fire Engine and Hose Co. - $12,426.
The grants may be used for construction or renovation of a unit’s station, the purchase or repair of equipment, training, debt reduction, education and public outreach, as well as staff recruitment and retention efforts. All fire companies, EMS services and volunteer rescue squads are eligible to apply for the annual grant program, which is funded solely with state gaming proceeds – not General Fund tax money. Funding amounts are contingent on the recipients filing their grant agreements with the Office of State Fire Commissioner.
